Standard EN 50494

The single-cable standard according to EN 50494 (SCR CENELEC) is used for the distribution of satellite TV signals. Several receivers are connected to a single line, which is not possible with SAT IF distribution. In contrast to conventional single-cable solutions with limited channel selection, the SCR single-cable standard provides the full range of channels. Instead of transmitting a complete frequency band, each receiver has a specific frequency in the range from 950 to 2150 MHz at its disposal. The receiver uses special DiSEqC™ signals to inform the LNB or multi-switch of the level and transponder of the desired program. The transponder is then modulated onto the frequency band of the receiver. Special DiSEqC™ switching signals are required to control a single-cable LNB, which is why only digital satellite receivers that support this standard can be used. This technology is based on the European standard EN 50494. In principle, all receivers that meet this standard can be operated in a single-cable system.
